tinkercraft Secures CA State Grant to Combat Extreme Heat in the City of San Bernardino

tinkercraft is thrilled to announce $106,500 in funding to put in action the Cooling San Bernardino project! This initiative was selected through a competitive process led by the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program (EHCRP), part of the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) in California.

“California is taking aggressive action to protect residents from the impacts of extreme heat and build resilience in our most vulnerable communities,” said Samuel Assefa, Director of the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI). “With lives on the line each summer, the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program will provide critical infrastructure investments in heat vulnerable communities.”

The investment in the City of San Bernardino is one of 47 grants receiving $32 million collectively to take action to protect against the public health impacts of extreme heat. Learn more about the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program on the LCI website.

With this funding we will address urgent challenges posed by extreme heat and identified by the City of San Bernardino.

Through the "Cooling San Bernardino: Planning and Design Strategies for Urban Heat Resilience" project, we will:

a. provide an in-depth analysis mapping the changes in land use and extreme heat temperatures over the past two decades, and

b. generate design strategies across a wide range of scales – from homes and yards to parks and civic infrastructures – that can be implemented to help mitigate the impacts of extreme heat.
